Roll turn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The roll turn is an aerobatic maneuver . It is part of the Aresti catalog for competitive aerobatics. Typically flown as a pulled-up roll turn, it consists of a (typically 45 °) climb that brakes the aircraft, half a roll is performed, followed by a positive (i.e. downwards from this flight position) 5/8 loop , so that the aircraft at the end flies in the opposite direction of flight without having to turn. The raised roller turn is one of the basic figures of aerobatic training. They can also be seen as reversed half Cuban eight , hence the English term "reverse half cuban".

The same maneuver without the initial climb is called Split-S , it leads to a strong increase in speed due to the downswing part of the flight figure.
