José Rubén Arias Mendoza is a former Paraguayan politician .

Life

After Raúl Cubas Grau was sworn in as President of Paraguay on August 15, 1999, Rubén Arias Mendoza was appointed Interior Minister in Paraguay's cabinet, which also included Dido Florentín Bogado as Foreign Minister, José Segovia Boltes as Defense Minister and Gerhard Doll as Finance Minister.

On March 23, 1999, the previous Vice President Luis María Argaña was assassinated, whereupon Arias Mendoza resigned as Interior Minister and President Raúl Cubas appointed his brother Carlos Cubas as Interior Minister. On March 28, 1999, President Raúl Cubas Grau resigned and was replaced by the previous President of the Senate, Luis Ángel González Macchi , who in turn appointed Walter Bower as Minister of the Interior. González Macchi later appointed Miguel Abdón Saguier as foreign minister and Nelson Argaña , the son of the assassinated vice president, as the new defense minister.
