- The Soviet mineralogist Leonid Alexejewitsch Kulik leads a groundbreaking scientific expedition to the difficult-to-access Tunguska area in Siberia to study and document the effects of the Tunguska event of 1908.
- 20./21. May - The American Charles Lindbergh manages the first solo crossing of the Atlantic without a stopover. Two years later, Bertolt Brecht dedicated his radio opera Der Ozeanflug to the sensational event .
- July 15 - In the course of serious riots with almost a hundred dead during a demonstration against the Schattendorfer judgment , which was perceived as unjust, the palace of justice burned in Vienna .
- August 23 - In Charlestown, Massachusetts will Sacco and Vanzetti executed.

- January 2nd - In Paris , the first religious radio broadcast ( L'Evanglie par dessus les toîts ) goes over the airwaves.
- February 23 - US President Calvin Coolidge founds the Federal Radio Commission , the predecessor of today's Federal Communications Commission .
- May 6th - In Istanbul , Türk Telsiz-Telefon Anonim Şirketi (roughly: "Turkish Wireless Telephone Company") starts Turkey's first regular radio broadcasting service. The programs can only be received by around 2,000 radio sets available in the country.

- April 7 - The Bell Laboratories transmitted by means of telephone cables a speech by US Secretary of Commerce (and later president) Herbert Hoover to a distance of 200 Miles (about 321 km). This is the first successful long-distance transmission of a television signal.
- May 24 - Scottish television pioneer John Logie Baird transmits a television signal over telephone cables between London and Glasgow .
- September 7th - With the help of a cathode ray tube , the American inventor and television pioneer Philo Farnsworth succeeds in demonstrating the transmission of an image in a purely electronic way under laboratory conditions.
