- June 16 - The Federal German Federal Constitutional Court announces the 3rd broadcasting judgment . It lays the foundations for the dual broadcasting system in Germany.
- October 12th - Conclusion of the film / television agreement between the Austrian Film Institute and ORF .
- December 31st - Official launch of color television in Turkey.

- January 1st - Comprehensive restructuring of the WDR radio programs in favor of detailed regional information broadcasts.
- March 1 - Swiss public radio DRS begins broadcasting the DRS night club on DRS 1 and DRS 2 .

- April 26 - Jim Davis , American actor, dies in California at the age of 71 . Davis became known worldwide for the role of Jock Ewing in the television series Dallas .
- May 9th - Fritz Umgelter , German director dies at the age of 58 in Frankfurt am Main . Among other things, he shot several TV series such as As far as the feet and Am green beach of the Spree .
- June 26th - Rosl Mayr , Bavarian folk actress, dies in Munich at the age of 84 . She became known through countless roles in various television series and movies.
