- January 1st - Alexander Wrabetz takes up his post as General Director of ORF , replacing Monika Lindner .
- January 1st - Fritz Raff becomes chairman of ARD .
- January 9th - Apple unveils the prototype of its newly developed iPhone to the public .
- May - The League of Polish Families , a Catholic political party, criticizes the children's program Teletubbies for allegedly promoting homosexuality and suggests that this program be canceled.
- May - At the University of Innsbruck , an interdisciplinary research project, scheduled to run for around two years, begins on the basis of the received manuscripts of the Ö1 poetry show Du holde Kunst about “ poetry mediation on the radio”. The institutes for German and computer science at the University of Innsbruck as well as public sponsors are involved. One of the goals is to create a publicly accessible database of the more than 3,000 programs broadcast since 1945.
- September 18 - The NDR terminates its contract with the presenter Eva Herman , author of the book The Eva Principle , because of her controversial statements on Nazi family policy.
- November - In the United States comes Amazon Kindle , a reader for electronic books and magazines on the market.

- January 7th - On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the Austrian radio broadcaster Ö1 begins repeating the Italian travel series designed by Michael Schrott , a travel documentary lasting several hours that was originally produced in 1986 for the Ö3 series Musicbox .

- May 3rd - The satirical show Wir sind Kaiser with Robert Palfrader goes on air for the first time on ORF 1 .
- May 10th - ZDF broadcasts the 400th issue of file number XY ... unsolved .
- May 20 - The 400th episode of The Simpsons airs on FOX . Title of the episode: "You Kent Always Say What You Want" (German: "The bad word").
- May 31st - Willkommen Österreich is broadcast for the first time on ORF 1 . Guests in the first program, which has the general theme of “Fear of Crime”, are the cabaret artist and actor Josef Hader and the former head of the former Vienna security office , Max Edelbacher .
- June 9th - Caroline Hamann-Winkelmann speaks her last daily news and goes on baby break. She will give birth to two children in this and announce in 2009 that she will no longer be returning to the news.
- June 14th - Das Erste broadcasts the last episode of the Harald Schmidt Show .
- July 3rd - The English language news channel Press TV goes on air in Iran . Its purpose is to spread the Iranian government's views, especially abroad

- January 19 - Gerhard Bronner Austrian author, cabaret artist and radio presenter ( Schlager for advanced learners , Der Guglhupf ) dies at the age of 84 in Vienna.
- January 28 - Karel Svoboda , Czech composer, dies at the age of 68 in Jevany , Czech Republic . Swoboda was best known to a wide audience for its theme melodies and sound designs for series such as Wickie and the Strong Men , Maya the Bee and The Visitors .
- February 5th - Alfred Worm , Austrian journalist dies at the age of 61 in Vienna.
- February 21 - Daniel Boemle , Swiss radio presenter at DRS 3 and DJ dies at the age of 46 in Les Ponts-de-Martel , Canton Neuchâtel .
- March 13th - Herbert Fux , Austrian actor and politician dies a few days before his 80th birthday in Zurich . Fux played in the 1960s and 1970s for the cinema roles in such diverse genres such as spaghetti westerns and lederhosen films before in many big and small roles in television productions such is a real Viennese not , the country doctor , Kaisermühlen Blues or Stockinger to a busy performer.
- April 22nd - Karl Holzamer , German university professor and first director of the ZDF between 1963 and 1977 , dies at the age of 100 in Mainz .
- June 19 - Klausjürgen Wussow , German actor, dies at the age of 78 in Rüdersdorf near Berlin . Wussow was best known to German-speaking television audiences in his role as "Chief Physician Professor Klaus Brinkmann".
- July 7th - Erich Mathias Mayer , known for his appearances in the role of Hias in the TV series Musikantenstadl, dies at the age of 56 in Johnsbach , Styria .
- July 10th - August Paterno , often known as "Pater Paterno", Austrian radio and television pastor, dies at the age of 71 in Horn .
- July 22nd - Ulrich Mühe , German actor, dies aged 54 in Walbeck (Oebisfelde-Weferlingen) .
- July 31 - Hilde Sicks , German actress, dies in Hamburg at the age of 86 . She was best known for the numerous television broadcasts from the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater .
- November 12th - Peter Steiner , Swiss musician and advertising actor, dies at the age of 90 in Walenstadt , Canton of St. Gallen . Steiner became known in the 1990s in the role of Cool Man , an advertising figure for chocolate in the entire German-speaking area.
- November 12th - Werner Geier, Austrian radio journalist ( Die Musicbox ) and music producer, dies in Vienna at the age of 45. Geier designed the catchy pause sign for the Austrian youth broadcaster FM4 .
- December 3 - Thomas Brennicke , German radio presenter ( Die Schlager der Woche ) dies at the age of 61 in Munich .
