2011: The Oprah Winfrey Show retires after 25 years

General

• 0January 1 - In Hungary , the controversial media control authority established by the ruling party Fidesz begins operations.
• March 11th - The Tōhoku earthquake near the east coast of Honshū ( Japan ) reaches a magnitude of 9.0. Radio and television around the world reported extensively on this event, in particular on the Fukushima nuclear disaster .

• October - After the broadcast of the film Persepolis on the Tunisian Nessma TV , which can be received in large parts of the Arabic-speaking world , demonstrations and physical attacks against the station take place.
• 0November 2 - An Islamist-motivated arson attack is carried out on the editorial offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo . The background should be the imprint of a Mohammed caricature on the title page of the sheet.
