River dolphin
As Flussdelfine or freshwater dolphins , whales sometimes freshwater, various types of whales are designated who live in fresh and brackish water and the partially originally assigned to a common taxonomic group:
- the Amazon river dolphins (Iniidae)
 - the Chinese river dolphin ( Lipotes vexillifer )
 - the La Plata dolphin ( Pontoporia blainvillei )
 - the Ganges and Indus dolphins, see Platanista
 
In addition, there are representatives of the (real) dolphins living in fresh water such as
- the species of the genus Sotalia ,
 - the Cameroon river dolphin ( Sousa teuszii )
 - the Irrawaddy Dolphin ( Orcaella brevirostris )
