Freshwater shark

Freshwater shark is the slang term for various taxa of sharks or other fish that live, can live, or have lived in freshwater .

Can be meant:

  • Bull shark , a large species of shark that lives in fresh and salt water
  • River sharks , a genus of sharks whose members prefer to live in the fresh and brackish water of large rivers
  • some species of catfish traded as "freshwater sharks" among aquarists
  • Xenacanthiformes , extinct shark-like cartilaginous fish of the Upper Palaeozoic
