Südfriedhof (Magdeburg)

The Südfriedhof is a communal cemetery in the Magdeburg district of Leipziger Straße (Magdeburg) . With around 18 hectares, it is the second largest cemetery in the state capital.

location

The cemetery is right on Leipziger Strasse. It has access from Leipziger Straße in the west, from Fermersleber Weg in the south, from Försterstraße in the east and Raiffeisenstraße in the north.

history

The cemetery was consecrated and opened on November 1, 1872. The cemetery was designed by the gardening director Paul Viktor Niemeyer .

particularities

The centrally located chapel was built in 1867. Similar to the Westfriedhof , the area has been designed like a park.
