history

The first fashion boutique with the name Sir Oliver was opened in 1969 by the trained coachbuilder Bernd Freier on 25 m² in Würzburg. The name is based on the fictional character Oliver Twist . In 1975, Freier introduced a women's fashion division. Because of litigation with the Cologne-based company Mülhens that in its 4711 -Portfolio a men's scent called Sir name legally had protected it, nine years after the foundation was, in 1978, Sir Oliver in s.Oliver renamed. In 1979 the s.Oliver brand was registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office in Munich. In the early years of his company, Freier went to India to successfully negotiate the delivery of shirts in Madras design directly with textile manufacturers. He eventually sold these to retailers such as Breuninger , Uli Knecht, Wöhrl and Wormland . In 1985 the first s.Oliver store opened its doors in Würzburg. In 1987 the jeans brand Knockout for men and the children's brand Oliver Twist (later renamed s.Oliver Junior ) were launched. The Chaloc Textile Handels GmbH was founded in 1993, and that same year was the start of women's fashion trademark Chaloc . The next year, QS Textilhandel was founded and the young brand QS (originally Quickstep ) was added to sales.

In 2001 s.Oliver took over the women's fashion brand comma, which was founded in 1973 . The Chaloc brand was thus dissolved in the s.Oliver range and replaced by comma . The s.Oliver online shop was launched in 2004. In 2006 the singer Anastacia designed a collection called Anastacia by s.Oliver . The new s.Oliver building in Rottendorf and the company's own s.Oliver Mini Club kindergarten at the company location were inaugurated in 2008. In 2009 s.Oliver celebrated its 40th anniversary. In 2011, the TRIANGLE by s.Oliver brand was launched for large women’s sizes, and s.Oliver was named the “friendliest employer in Main Franconia”. International expansion began in 1998 with a shop in Austria. Over the years foreign branches followed in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Hungary and India. In 2013 the Canadian market was opened. In 2011 the s.Oliver Group invested in the handbag manufacturer Liebeskind Berlin and at the end of 2012 already held 70% of the shares. Liebeskind , whose portfolio now also includes clothing and shoes, has been a 100% subsidiary of s.Oliver since the end of 2014 .

Products

So far, s.Oliver has divided its range into three segments, which are aimed at different types of buyers. However, new brands have existed since February 1, 2015, which have restructured and replaced the previous areas.

  • s.Oliver - main collection for women and men
    • s.Oliver Black Label (successor to s.Oliver Selection and s.Oliver Premium ) - more elegant business fashion for women and men
    • s.Oliver Red Label - sporty leisure fashion for women and men
  • Q / S designed by - youthful second line for women and men
  • Triangle - women's fashion in sizes 36 to 54
  • get it on - trend collection for women
  • s.Oliver Junior - children's fashion for girls, boys and babies

The guiding principle behind the s.Oliver brand is the family for the family . In addition to the three main elements, s.Oliver offers other product lines such as s.Oliver BODY- and BEACHWEAR (day and nightwear as well as swimwear) and s.Oliver accessories (bags, belts and leather goods). Together with various license partners, the company also sells twelve license lines, including s.Oliver Shoes (shoes), s.Oliver Eyewear (glasses), s.Oliver Time (watches), s.Oliver Jewel (jewelry), s.Oliver Home, s.Oliver Umbrellas , s.Oliver Garden and s.Oliver Toys . The s.Oliver fragrance collection (s.Oliver Fragrances) is produced under license by Mäurer & Wirtz .

criticism

The group came under fire in August 2010 when the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) reported that employees in the branches were paid an hourly wage of in some cases only € 6.50 gross (€ 5.22 net). There is no regular income because the employees are deployed according to the workload and thus on demand. Depending on professional experience, the hourly wage for employees in retail would be between € 6.50 and € 10.00 (gross).

There is no works council, despite the fact that there are now over 5,200 employees.
