The SS 100 was in the fall of 1935, in parallel with the SS Jaguar 2 ½ Liter of the SS Cars Ltd put on the market, and, as its predecessor SS90 , when two-seater roadster. It is the first vehicle to bear the Jaguar name. In March 1945 the manufacturer's company was changed to Jaguar, as National Socialism gave the acronym SS a negative image.

The SS 100 had the same six-cylinder in-line engine with a capacity of 2663 cc and 102 bhp as the SS Jaguar 2 ½ liter , which was supplied by the Standard Motor Company with a fully assembled chassis. The rear wheels were driven via a four-speed gearbox with center shift. The roadster reaches a top speed of almost 160 km / h - approx. 100 mph, hence the number in the name.

From the end of 1937 - again as with the sedan - there was an option of a larger six-cylinder in-line engine with 3485 cc and 125 bhp. The motorized car drove up to 164 km / h. Noteworthy was a closed, two-seater coupé of the 3½ liter, which was shown at the London Motor Show in October 1938, but remained a one-off.

While 191 pieces of the 2½ liter were produced, the 3½ liter only produced 118 pieces. In 1939 the production of both models was stopped due to the war. It was not until the Jaguar XK 120 that a roadster was offered again after the Second World War .

Replica

A purely external replica based on a VW Beetle was offered by JM Rousseau , France from 1982 to 1985 .
