SJ Pettersson

Stig Jonas Pettersson is an American composer and music teacher of Swedish origin.

Pettersson studied philosophy at Lund University and music at the Malmö Jazz Institute before moving to Los Angeles in 1983. Here he studied at the Musician Institute Hollywood with musicians such as Joe Pass , Lenny Breau and Scott Henderson . In 1991 he founded the Manhattan Beach Music & Voice music school , where he taught piano, guitar, saxophone and music theory.

In his compositions, Pettersson combines a wide variety of musical styles, from minimalism to jazz to African polyrhythm and Arabic microtonality. He often combines the music with visual components. Krysalis is the music for a film of its own. Blade Runner Resurrection is an electroacoustic music for a projected sequel to the film by Ridley Scott .

In addition to other film scores such as My Black Heart , Pettersson composed a. a. the ballet GAUDÍ - Dancing About Architecture and the chamber opera A Dream Play , which premiered in New York in 2009.
