SECCOS
SECCOS "stands for Se cure C hip C ard O perating S ystem". It is the DK - smart card operating system for use in the German banking industry. SECCOS is based on ISO-7816 and thus offers an application-independent security architecture.
Public interest
SECCOS came to the attention of the public at the turn of the year 2009/2010, because the versions of SECCOS 5 supplied by Gemalto only processed the year figures in single digits and thus 30 million of the debit cards and credit cards used in Germany were temporarily unusable.
Applications
Chip cards based on SECCOS can be used for different applications:
- especially for financial transactions (e.g. based on FinTS , FTAM or EBICS )
- GeldKarte applications
- TAN generator
- advanced and qualified signature (e.g. for electronic tax returns or pension information)
- electronic tickets and bonus systems
- EMC applications
- Proof of age (e.g. cigarette machine )
