Sam J. Jones (born August 12, 1954 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actor .

Life

Jones served in the United States Marine Corps . Jones completely undressed for the June 1975 issue of Playgirl magazine. He used the name Andrew Cooper III.

Jones had his first role in a feature film with Bo Derek in the 1979 film Ten - The Dream Woman .

Jones is best known today for his leading role in Flash Gordon as the 1980 film hero of the same name. After this film turned out to be a flop and Jones brought in a 1981 nomination for the " Golden Raspberry " for worst actor, he received no more major feature film roles. But he was still regularly seen in American television productions. In 1987, Jones played the leading role in the US adaptation of Will Eisner's comic book character " The Spirit ". In the same year he directed the film Highwayman for NBC , which led to a short-lived series.

In 2001 he starred in the series Hollywood Safari and appeared in Stargate SG-1 in the episode "Bounty Hunter" ( Deadman switch ) in the third season.

In 2012, Jones starred in Seth MacFarlane's comedy film Ted and again in Ted 2 in 2015 .

Sam Jones is married for the second time and has a total of five children. He uses the name Sam J. Jones to avoid confusion with the actor Sam Jones . His real name, however, is Samuel Gerald Jones.
