Lists on the subject

The Samopal vzor 58 ( Sa vz. 58 for short , in German submachine gun model 58 ) was the standard rifle of the Czechoslovak armed forces during the longest period of the Cold War . In the literature the weapon is also called vz. 58 or ČZ 58 .

history

The Czechoslovakia was always eager to equip their troops with self-developed weapons of its own production. Soviet models were not adopted, as was otherwise customary in the Warsaw Pact . This went so far that even the widespread Kalashnikov type assault rifles were ignored . The ČSSR was the only country in the Eastern Military Alliance whose army did not have Kalashnikov rifles in its arsenal. Instead, the Sa vz. Model developed by Jiří Čermák was used in 1958 . 58 the Ordonnanzwaffe and replaced the previously used submachine guns of the Samopal vzor 48 type . The Sa vz. 58 looks similar to the AK outwardly and is often confused with it, but it is an independent construction. The only thing both weapons have in common is the Soviet short M43 cartridge .

The Sa vz. 58 is a gas pressure charger with a swivel bolt lock , the short return gas piston of which has its own return spring. It is locked by a locking block that is released from the gas piston. As a result, it folds up into the bolt carrier and unlocks it. If the magazine empty, the remaining closure in open position. In this state, the weapon can also be loaded with loading strips without having to remove the magazine. The weapon has a spring-actuated axial firing pin . The closure housing is machined, the closure cover is manufactured using the sheet metal stamping process. The bolt, throttle rod and inside of the barrel are hard chrome-plated, the outside of the weapon is phosphated and coated with enamel. The Sa vz. 58 is a little lighter than the AK and comparable to the AK in terms of reliability. On the other hand, the latter proved to be more durable and offers a significantly higher hit density under sustained fire than the Czechoslovak weapon.

For the Sa vz. 58 a bayonet is available.

The practical rate of fire is around 40 rounds / min for single and 120 rounds / min for continuous fire.
