From 2013 to 2018 , the South Korean group Samsung Electronics sold a range of affordable entry-level smartphones under the Samsung Galaxy J series . Since 2018 this segment has been replaced by new models in the A series.
Based on the Samsung Galaxy J , which was presented in December 2013 and was quite well equipped, all models in the series had the essential features of a smartphone, so that there were no restrictions with normal use. The letter J stood for Joy ( Engl. For joy). However, new features are omitted or other materials are used, which Samsung aimed at Asian markets or the European entry-level market. Overall, several model series were offered, which differ in size and equipment. The models were updated at least annually, minor updates or variants were indicated with suffixes such as Pro , Duos , Prime , etc. The 2016 models had replaceable batteries; from 2017 these were deleted.
