San Giovanni Evangelista is a Roman Catholic Church and Benedictine Abbey in Parma , Italy.

Work for the abbey and church began in the 10th century through an existing oratory related to St. Colombanus. In 1477 the entire complex was damaged by fire. The abbey basilica was rebuilt from around 1490 according to the current design by Bernardino Zaccagni from 1510. Construction ended around 1519. Right from the start, the design included a thoroughly painted interior with five extensive groups of frescoes.

The monastery has three cloisters. The first has Ionic columns, the second has decorations by Correggio and the third, known as the Cloister of St. Benedict, has frescoes from the early 16th century. The associated library with 20,000 books has manuscripts and codexes that document the amanuensis activity of the local monks. The manuscripts came here from the monastery of Santa Giustina in Padua without decoration and were decorated here by Damiano da Moile, Francino da Moile and, from 1492, by Michele da Genova.

The monastery also has an old grocery store that has been documented since 1201. There is also an old San Giovanni Bededictine pharmacy.

The Abbey of Santa Maria della Neve in Torrechiara also belongs to the monastery of San Giovanni Evangelista.
