Sand run

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sand run is the name for a board in shipbuilding that was attached to a wooden keel under the actual keel on ships .

Ships with a wooden keel have the problem that this z. B. wears out when touching ground. In order to prevent this wear and tear or to keep it manageable, a board is attached under the actual keel. This board should then wear out instead of the actual keel and must then be replaced or renewed after several years.

The name probably comes from the fact that the ships can "walk over the sand" on this plank.
