ScanDisk is a computer program created by Microsoft to identify and correct errors (logical and physical) on the hard drive or partition . This is to ensure the integrity of all files.

In MS-DOS 6.2 and in the Windows 9x and ME product series, ScanDisk replaced the CHKDSK tool for checking FAT -formatted partitions.

In Windows versions of the NT series , ScanDisk was again replaced by a command line version of Chkdsk , which was expanded to include the diagnostic capabilities of the NTFS file system . Alternatively, starting with Windows XP , you can click the partition with the right mouse button in Windows Explorer and use it in the pop-up menu under Properties → Extras → Error checking.
