Scab

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When casting materials, a scab is a production defect . It occurs when the surface of the casting mold tears open due to thermal expansion or, in the case of wet casting, it bursts close to the surface due to insufficient gas permeability due to the resulting water vapor . As a result, some of the melt penetrates the mold and sharp edges are left behind after it has been removed.

In shredding technology, a scab is a pressed, belt -shaped intermediate product that is compacted by rolling .
