Shift travel shortening

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A shift (in English: Short Shifter) is in cars with manual transmission used in order to shorten the switching paths during gear changes. The standard built-in gear stick is replaced by a heavyweight gear knob with a different leverage effect , and the gear lever can also be modified or replaced accordingly. With this measure it is achieved that a shorter distance has to be covered at the end of the gear stick on which the gear knob is seated when changing gears. Values of 60–80% of the original switching travel have proven effective. With less, the force to be applied is usually too great and the switching path is imprecise.

The shortening of the shift travel is often used in the tuning scene.
