Schetel

Schetel different from Buchholz .

A short piece of strip, mostly made of wood , is called a Schetel and is used as a measure of the size of net meshes (e.g. in fishing nets ).

Schetels have a length of 10 to 20 cm and an elliptical cross-section. The width is about half of the stitch size to be produced (measured between two knots when the stitch is stretched out). This is due to the fact that when manually knotting a net, two half loops are always joined together to form a whole.
