Shield justice

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sign justice is a legal term that, at the beginning of modern times, referred to the right granted by the administration to identify a restaurant as such by affixing a sign and to operate it as a public trade in localities and on main roads.

A shield tavern had a shield and a name, was obliged to accommodate strangers, to offer a high level of warm food and drinks. It should be clearly different from corner and street restaurants and serve to increase the infrastructure in the emerging supra-regional movement of goods and people.
