Chase

Lock frame with sentence

The chase is an iron form in which the typesetting created using the lead type process is clamped before printing.

Chase frames are available in different sizes, depending on the possible format of the printing machine. The set text is lifted into the frame and the free spaces are filled with locking bars. So-called locking devices, which are clamping wedges that can be adjusted with screws, clamp the set in the frame. This gives a printable form.
