Hohenrain Castle

The Hohenrain Castle , and Castle Haber Bach called, was a castle in Graz . It was on the road that leads from Lustbühel into Autal . Its history goes back to the year 1629. Today only the remains of the walls of the former castle are preserved.

The castle was built in 1629 by the Graz city judge Wolf Grienpeckh. However, the upper floor was not designed until the 19th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries it was owned by the Lengheimers. From 1660 until the 18th century, the Rainer family, later called von Hohenrain, owned the property. In the battle fought on the Ruckerlberg in 1809 , the Austrian Field Marshal Ignácz Gyulay had his command base in Hohenrain Castle. After 1809 the building was demolished. The property has been privately owned since 1956.
