Stein Castle (Fehring)
The Stone Castle is a castle in Petzelsdorf in Fehring in Thermenland in Eastern Styria . Today it houses a school.
history
The original Schloss Stein is the actual princely castle Schloss am Stein . It stood from 1170 as the main castle Fürstenfeld ., From there the rule over the area south from Fürstenfeld to Kapfenstein was exercised.
The Stein rule was retained, however, and the new Stein Castle was built in Fehring as the manor's seat. The building is two-story with an octagonal and a hexagonal tower as well as commercial buildings. Under Christoph Graf Paar in 1776 it was expanded to serve as the administrative headquarters for his estates around Fehring - in that year the state bought Stein Castle in Fürstenfeld, and it became Austria's first tobacco factory . The administration exercised high jurisdiction (including the death penalty) until the administrative reform in 1848.
Agricultural and Food Economics School
Today the St. Martin School of Agriculture and Food is housed in the castle .
