Slack time is a term from production planning and control (PPS) that describes the remaining time of an order . This is the time from the current processing time to the target finish date, minus the remaining processing times .

In the event of disruptions in production , the slack time is used to help determine the order priority. But even in trouble-free production, the order priority is often set according to urgency , that is: slack time.

The slip time of an order is determined as follows:

  Liefertermin
- Termin der Prioritätsfestlegung
- verbleibende Durchlaufzeit 
= Schlupfzeit

Beispiel (ausgehend vom 1. Januar):
  20. Januar: Liefertermin
- 10. Januar: Termin der Prioritätsfestlegung (heute)
- 4 Tage verbleibende Durchlaufzeit 
  → 20 - 10 - 4
= 6 Tage Schlupfzeit

The slip time becomes negative if the delivery date can no longer be achieved according to plan.
