Ring joint seals are purely metallic seals for static applications

An osculation seal is a purely metallic sealing body and belongs to the category of static seals. It is visually similar to flat seals, but its sealing surface is not flat, but slightly curved. Their working principle is therefore fundamentally different. It achieves a sealing effect due to the line contact that occurs between the sealing body and the flange during compression . This requires higher manufacturing qualities , such as a lower roughness , compared to a sealing point consisting of a flat seal and a smooth pair of flanges.

A flat gasket achieves its sealing effect due to the plastic deformation of the sealing body and the resulting clinging to the flange surface , which greatly reduces the leakage paths in the seal and between the seal and flange surface.
