Writing book (cover type)
The writing book is a traditional form of binding . This binding has been used since the end of the 19th century for books in which the content (text) was only added after the binding. In particular, these were register books on administrations (birth, marriage, death registers or the like) or accounting books. The cover form of the writing book was replaced in the 20th century by new systems that could be tracked with the typewriter or later with the computer. Today only a few writing books are produced, mostly in specialized companies.
Due to the special construction of the cover, the pages of the writing book can be opened completely flat (lay flat). This enabled the writer to use the covenant to describe the book. The traditional form of the writing book is the writing book with detached covers, which is also called a jump back book . In order to simplify the production and to save costs, simpler cover forms for the production of writing books were developed in the 20th century, such as the simply attached writing book . In his manual for bookbinders, Henningsen also describes paperback versions of the writing book, which he only recommends for thin content.
