Welding rod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In shipping, the welding bar is a metal carrier that protects the goods in the cargo hold from condensation on the outer walls, which is formed there by temperature differences (so-called sweat ). Attaching the welding rods prevents the cargo from coming into contact with the wall and thus absorbing moisture.

In the past, welding rods were mainly used on general cargo carriers. They usually consisted of spruce boards with a cross-section of approx. 16 cm × 4.5 cm. They were held in place by steel rod hooks welded onto the frames. On practically every trip, welding rods were damaged by slipping heavy loads. It was the ship's carpenter's job to replace them.
