Sea clay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With lacustrine clay or Beckenton refers to a geological layer of solidified clay minerals is, yet is soft and unstable. Sea clays are fine deposits that were formed by glaciation in the Ice Ages , were washed out and came to a standstill in the basin landscapes around the Alps. The deposition took place in the Quaternary .

Like clay , sea clay is very volatile and easily erodible . Sea clays have only a low load-bearing capacity and a high water content . Lake clay is considered to be water-bearing for constant groundwater . Lake clay occurs on both sides, especially in floodplains in the Alps and is often located below meltwater pebbles, which in turn serve as aquifers . Alluvial clay covers protect the groundwater from contamination, for example as happens in the agricultural alpine areas with liquid manure .
