Segregated account

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A segregated account is an account that is kept separate from the assets of the investment company in the name (and owned) of the investor . Because the "segregated account" remains the property of the investor, the account is protected against abuse and insolvency of the company.

The advisor can act on the "segregated account" with a power of attorney , but cannot dispose of the assets as such. This offers an advantage over " pooled " investments, in which the investor's money is transferred to the property of a provider and is managed by him on a joint account.

Within managed futures , a sub-category of hedge funds, customer funds are managed in segregated accounts.
