Self-interacting dark matter

In self-interacting dark matter ( English self-interacting dark matter , abbreviated SIDM ) is an alternative to the standard model of cold dark matter (CDM).

For SIDM it is assumed that dark matter consists of elementary particles that interact with each other. It is irrelevant whether there is an interaction with baryonic matter or particles of the Standard Model . Accordingly, SIDM is a collective term for various particle physics models for dark matter. SIDM is interesting from an astrophysical perspective, as it can solve or at least mitigate problems of the ΛCDM model on cosmologically small scales and thus can potentially explain observations better than CDM.
