Septet in E flat major (fraction)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The septet in E flat major for clarinet, horn, bassoon, two violins, cello and double bass (without opus number) was written by Max Bruch in 1849, at the age of eleven. The dating of August 28, Goethe's 100th birthday, suggests that it was composed in honor of this poet who was highly valued by Bruch throughout his life.

The septet is mainly based on the models Beethoven and Schubert. However, it already has early features of Bruch's melody, youthful freshness and charm of Rhenish origin. The surprisingly safe instrumentation only surprises with the somewhat undifferentiated treatment of the three wind instruments, which makes the horn part somewhat difficult. The formal and harmonious structure of the extensive work also shows Bruch's early maturity.

The manuscript of the septet was found in 1968 in the estate of the widow von Bruch's eldest son.

A performance usually lasts about 36 minutes.
