The Shahdag National Park , in Azerbaijani Şahdağ Milli Parkı , is a national park in Azerbaijan . It was declared in 2006 with an area of 1159 km² and expanded to 1305 km² in 2010. It is located in the six districts of Ismailli, Guba, Gusar, Gabala, Oguz and Shamakhi. It is named after the mountain Shahdag . The park was sponsored by the World Bank and the Japanese government in 2007.
The national park also plays an important role in preserving the diversity of mammals in Azerbaijan. 51 of the 101 species of mammals living in Azerbaijan live in this park.
In 2019, bison are to be resettled in the protected area , which once lived there until they were extinct.
