Shereen Pandit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shereen Pandit (* in Cape Town ) is a British writer, lawyer and political activist of South African descent.

Shereen Pandit came from a Muslim family. She studied law in London . The lawyer and political activist has also been the author of short stories since 1996 . Some of her short stories have won awards.

Shereen Pandit always wanted to be a writer. However, those around her always advised her to become a lawyer, as lawyers were so badly needed because the black community stood up for their human rights and freedom and the activists were regularly accused and punished for this. So Shereen Pandit decided to become a lawyer. But it was not enough for her to represent other activists legally. She also wanted to stand up for human rights and freedom, to interfere directly.

As a political activist, she came into conflict with the government of South Africa, which is why she and her husband fled law enforcement to London. Although she was no longer able to practice her legal profession here, she was able to ensure that the South African government's treatment of the black population, which violates human rights, becomes known to a wider public.

The author saw a way to do this in writing short stories and poems that were published in anthologies and magazines. Most of her stories are written for adults. The author's few stories for children all appeared in the youth magazine “Young Writer”.

Shereen Pandit is married with a daughter who is also a writer. Pandit is a member of the following authors' associations: African Writers Abroad, PEN Writers in Prisons Committee, Exiled Writers Ink!
