Shetland Folk Festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shetland Folk Festival has been an international folk music meeting that has taken place every April since 1981 .

structure

The organizers are a non-profit organization that takes care of the implementation on a voluntary basis. Their goal is to offer the visitors and the local community of those interested in music the world's best folk music at their festival, as far as this is possible if you are based in the periphery of Europe. For the three-day duration of the Folk Festival, a festival office will be set up in the Islesburgh Community Center, to which only participants have access. There are concerts, workshops, session rooms , food and drink there. The "club" is usually open until the early hours of the morning.

Musical focus

The focus is first of all on Shetland's musical traditions. Since the small beginnings, the range of topics of the many concerts and workshops has expanded to include a variety of European, North American and world music influences.

In addition to this large folk festival, there is a much more specialized, smaller festival that takes place regularly in October, the Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Festival .
