Shinryokufūkai

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shinryokufūkai ( Japanese 新 緑 風 会 , German about: "New Summer Wind Assembly") is a faction in the Japanese House of Lords, the Sangiin .

In 1994, the Shinryokufūkai was initially an independent association of independent members of the House of Lords who worked with the opposition to the ruling Liberal Democratic Party . The name is linked to the Ryokufūkai of the Shōwa period , which belonged to the largest factions in the first years after the creation of the Sangiin in 1947.

After the Shinryokufūkai lost many members to the Heiseikai (dt: " Heisei Assembly") from Shinshintō and Kōmeitō MPs, it was reformed in 1996 when the Democratic Party was founded and has since formed a joint faction with it. Since the 2007 election there has been a joint parliamentary group Democratic Party / Shinryokufūkai / New Japan Party ( 民主党 ・ 新 緑 風 会 ・ 日本 ) with 120 members in Sangiin.

The four members of Shinryokufūkai joined the Democratic Party in autumn 2009. "Shinryokufūkai" remained part of the group's name.
