Shōchiku KK ( Japanese 松竹 株式会社 , Shōchiku Kabushiki kaisha ) is a Japanese film company founded in 1902 by the brothers Ōtani Takejirō and Matsujirō. This makes it one of the oldest film studios in the world. In the 1910s and 1920s, Shōchiku oriented itself explicitly on the American film industry and brought numerous innovations to Japan.

In accordance with his philosophy of relying on artistically valuable, progressive films, Shōchiku took a pioneering role in establishing a new style of film. For example, in 1921 in Rojō no Reikon ( 路上 の 霊 魂 ) Murata Minoru played a leading female role for the first time by a woman and not by a male actor ( Onnagata ).

Today, for example, Shōchiku produces the popular films by Takeshi Kitano . Shōchiku also produced the world-famous director Yasujirō Ozu .
