Shoot and scoot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shoot-and-scoot (dt .: shoot and run away ) is an application principle of artillery .

Because of the progress made in bunkering weapons , fortress artillery has become obsolete, while unprotected, rifled artillery can be quickly located and also fought with artillery reconnaissance radar .

As a consequence, the guns in the shoot-and-scoot fire position only immediately before use and leave the position immediately after firing. This requires self-propelled guns that can move on the battlefield, typically self-propelled howitzers .
