Shrink flation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Shrinkflation is meant decreasing the Portionierungsgrößen of consumer goods or the packaging of a minor amount to inflation to hide. The term is a portmanteau word , and is made up of English shrink (shrink) and the technical term in flation (swelling) together.

Problem

The widespread shopping carts for determining consumer price indices are based on specifically defined products. However, inflation cannot be measured if the product changes unexpectedly and not visibly.

example

In the past, it was typical to reduce the size of products that were not shown in terms of weight, such as bread rolls.

Statements that shrink flation increased in the UK after the 2016 EU membership referendum are contested.
