The Sica was a single-edged, curved dagger or a short sword of Thracian - Illyrian origin. In Rome, the Sica was mainly used by bands of robbers, which gave these gangs the name sicarii . The Jewish resistance fighters, the Sicarians , are best known . The weapon was also used by the Thraeces , a specific type of gladiator . In Roman jurisprudence, which strictly distinguished such matters, the sica was viewed as a dishonorable weapon .
