Safety feed pump

Safety feed pumps are part of the emergency cooling system of a nuclear power plant .

These are centrifugal pumps that are part of a concept for the control of leakage accidents . Because of their high safety significance, they are assigned to different redundancies . If necessary, they are started automatically (but can also be started manually) and feed water - additionally with boric acid in the case of pressurized water reactors - into the reactor cooling circuit from the storage tanks provided for this purpose .
