Sigil is an open-source - Editor , which was developed from 2009 to July 2011 by Strahinja Markovic and from July 2011 to June 2015 by John Schember. Development has been led by Kevin Hendricks and Doug Massay since June 2015. The first version (v0.1.0) was released on August 1st, 2009. The aim of the project is to create a user-friendly editor for EPUB documents. The current Sigil version only supports editing the HTML - source code . (Sigil's WYSWIG component has been moved to a separate program, PageEdit.)
Functions
- Full support for EPUB specification EPUB 2 and EPUB3.
- Full-fledged metadata editor.
- Support of the following image formats : JPG , GIF , PNG and SVG .
- Import of TXT , HTML and EPUB data.
- Full support of the Unicode character set.
- Regular expressions are supported for search and replace .
- An EPUB validation tool , which can be added as a plug-in, also provides information about missing metadata, unused images and similar features.
- Hyperlinks can be created.
- Except for a few dialogues, the program is multilingual, and German is also supported.
technology
The application is largely written in the C ++ programming language , based on the Qt framework . Sigil is published under the terms of version 3 of the GNU General Public License (GPL) as free software, including the source code.
