Siham Bouhlal (* 1966 in Casablanca ) is an originally Moroccan writer, poet, mediaevalist and translator.

life and work

Bouhlal has lived in Paris since 1984, where she studied literature at the Sorbonne. She translates texts from the Middle Ages and the present from Arabic into French. Her poems revolve around love, passion and the act of love. Her attention is also given to death, loss and absence. “Poetry can be anything - a word, a look, a gesture or a moment of silence,” she says. She also looks at Arabic traditions and the role of women in Islamic society.
