Simparch

Simparch (founded in 1996 in Las Cruces , New Mexico ) is an artist collective . The founding members are Steven Badgett (* 1962, Illinois) and Matthew Lynch (* 1969, Indiana). The name Simparch is a combination of the words Simple and Architecture .

"Simparch's" simple architecture ", an allusion to SciArch ( Southern California Institute of Architecture ) represents a design concept according to which the form follows the needs for better living conditions and does not bow to the capitalist urge for functionality, efficiency and cosmetic appearance" .

Simparch creates interactive works of art on a large scale on the subjects of travel, leisure, borderline myths and popular culture.

Free Basin (2000–2002), a fully functional, kidney-shaped “skate bowl” made of plywood, which is based on a model of garden swimming pools, was shown at Documenta11 in Kassel in 2002 .
