The Singapore-ETH Center is an inter- and transdisciplinary research institute based in Singapore . It was founded in 2010 by the ETH Zurich and the Singapore National Research Foundation NRF and employs around 200 researchers from 20 nations in around 25 disciplines.

Research goal

At the research institute Singapore-ETH Center there are two research programs, Future Cities Laboratory FCL and Future Resilient Systems FRS , which deal with the sustainable development of cities and their infrastructures.

The Future Resilient Systems FRS program was started in 2014 to meet the challenges of increasingly networked and complex infrastructure systems. The FRS program examines ways in which infrastructure systems can be made more resilient, learn to organize themselves and ultimately change themselves, similar to a biological system.

The scientific focus of the research of the Future Cities Laboratory FCL program is on the quantification and understanding of the complex urban world and how it can be structured and organized in a sustainable manner.

The Singapore-based center is the only research center of ETH Zurich outside Switzerland and was inaugurated on March 16, 2012.
