The Sirrenberg is between 200 m and 250 m above sea level. NN high elevation in the area of the city of Sprockhövel south of the district of Niedersprockhövel. Due to the significant deposits of Ruhr sandstone, there were over 20 larger quarries in the Sirrenberg area by the middle of the 20th century.

The Kleinbahn Bossel – Blankenstein , a regular- gauge branch line, cut through this mountain and served the local quarries as a means of transport for the broken stones. There were also some coal mines, the largest of which was the Small Windmill colliery .

The formerly completely wooded ridge is first mentioned in a document around 1600 as Serenberg . In the church records of the Evangelical Church in Niedersprockhövel, the family name Grave in the Serenberge can also be found around 1682 , which indicates a permanent settlement of this area before 1650.

The place name Sirrenberg can also be found today as a family name in the Sprockhövel region.
