Scriptor (Latin scriptor, German scribe, copyist , author) was a medieval profession.

Before the invention of printing, books were copied by copying, which was mostly done in monasteries in the scriptorium . This activity was carried out by the so-called scriptor. The illustration did not fall within the scope of the scriptors' remit , it was carried out by the miniators (or illuminators). Sometimes a scriptor was also a miniator.
