Example of a skybox texture

A skybox is used in game design to make a map appear larger than it really is. Typically, the sky is depicted on the inside of a cube that surrounds the level , along with unreachable landscapes and mountains or buildings in the distance. In the Source Engine , the skybox is focused on the player's point of view. It doesn't move or change perspective while the player is moving. This creates the illusion of distance. A 3D skybox can also be made as a supplement. It consists of three-dimensional models on a smaller scale that show movement parallax .
